Filters & Breathers

RMF Systems offer the most complete and efficient filter series available today. RMF Filters can be utilised in an offline or
by-pass configuration, providing phenomenal levels of depth filtration to hydraulic, transmission and gearbox oil, without adversely
effecting the properties of the oil.
RMF is the solution to your contamination problems:
› Simple to fit.
› Equipped with extremely efficient elements.
› Offering the opportunity for simple control of oil cleanliness.
Main flow filters - even when applied as a fine filter - are incapable of removing silt particles of less than 2 micron from the
oil. Chemical contamination from silt and sludge forming shortens the useful life from the oil. The result is an increase in
component wear, maintenance costs and machine down time. The radial micro filter units from RMF Systems, remove even the smallest
particles and water from the oil. The direct result is longer oil usage life with less malfunctions and longer service intervals.
In the hydraulic market it is an accepted fact that contamination causes 80% of all mechanical failures. This contamination results
from the presence of solid particles such as metal, sand and rubber. Mainstream filters are incapable of removing the smallest
particles, smaller than 2 micron (better known as silt). Fluctuations in the supply and the resulting changing conditions mean that
these mainstream filters cannot carry out fine filtration; most of the silt remains in the system and affects the chemical
composition of the oil. Changes in temperature cause water vapour to condense, resulting in unwanted water in the oil and the
presence of this free water helps to accelerate the water from the oil. Removing silt and preventing the formation of free water combat
these problems.
At the heart of the RMF Off-line and By-pass filter units is the unique micro-filter element. This filter works according to the
radial through-flow principle. It is able to remove the smallest of contamination particles (silt) from the oil. The filter material
is composed primarily of cellulose, which is applied by a special wrapping method. This material is capable of retaining solid
particles and absorbing water. This helps to prevent the chemical deterioration of the oil and the formation of various acids and
sludge.
RMF Systems By-pass filters attack contamination directly. The efficient filter elements are primarily composed of cellulose. In
addition to solid particle contamination, they also are capable of extracting water from the hydraulic oil. This eliminates the
catalytic effect of water and dirt, preventing degradation of the oil. An integrated flow control valve passes oil from the
hydraulic system through the filter and back to the reservoir.
RMF By-pass filters are especially designed for mobile hydraulic installations. They are available in single or double units which
are equally suitable for OEM use and retro fitting. RMF By-pass filter units can be fitted to every imaginable mobile application
where hydraulic and/or transmission systems are present.
In recent years RMF Systems have developed a great deal of experience in cleaning and keeping clean hydraulic and transmission
systems on: - excavators; - wheel loaders; - forestry machines; - asphalt machines; - concrete pumps; - aviation ground support
equipment; - agricultural machines.
RMF Systems Off-line filters attack contamination directly. The efficient filter elements are primarily composed of cellulose. In
addition to solid particle contamination, they also are capable of extracting water from the hydraulic oil. This eliminates the
catalytic effect of water and dirt, preventing degradation of the oil. An integrated pump/motor unit pumps oil from the reservoir
through the filter unit. After filtering the oil is returned to tank.
RMF Off-line filters, in single or multiple housing, can be easily applied to every imaginable (new and existing) hydraulic
installation.
RMF Off-line filter units can be fitted to every imaginable industrial application where hydraulic and/or lubrication systems are
present. The standard range of Off-line filters can be utilised in reservoirs with a maximum volume of 11.000 litres. In recent
years RMF Systems have developed a great deal of experience in cleaning and keeping clean hydraulic and lubrication systems on: -
steel industry; - plastic moulding industry; - maritime industry; - petrochemical industry; - paper industry.
Standard air filters remove a limited amount of solid particle contamination particles from the air, but allow water vapour to pass
through. RMF breathers are highly effective in removing both solid particles and water vapour from the air. The revolutionary Z-R
gel granules dry the air before it enters the oil tank and this dry air is then filtered by a 3 micron fibre glass air filter. The
Z-R gel is entirely replaceable, non-toxic and meets all required environmental norms and conditions.
Hydraulic cylinder extension for example, can draw air, including contamination particles and water vapour into the oil reservoir.
The water vapour condenses due to temperature changes and causes not only oxidation of the oil, but can also lead to serious
mechanical wear in the system. Standard air filters remove a certain amount of solid particle contamination from the air but allow
water vapour to pass through.
The special RMF breathers ensure that incoming air is first dried and then filtered. RMF breathers can be used on hydraulic power
units, lube and oil tanks, gearboxes, diesel fuel storage tanks, storage tanks for bio-degradable fluids. Industries that are
successfully applying breathers include: - steel industry; - aviation industry; - forestry; - paper industry; - cement industry.
